Argan oil is a rich, gold oil that is extracted from the seeds of the Argan fruit from the Argan tree. For centuries, the Moroccan people have revered Argan oil for its numerous beauty and anti-aging benefits. One of the original beauty uses of Argan oil by the Moroccan people was for skin and hair protection from the harsh sun, as well as protection from the heat and wind of the desert climate. They also have traditionally used Argan oil to help lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation of the skin and to protect from damage by the sun.

Recent research has shown that it is the rich phytonutrient content of the Argan oil that give it its sun protection, skin lightening, and anti-aging properties. Argan oil is rich in omega fatty acids, tocopherols/vitamin E, antioxidants, and minerals which work synergistically to make it a great summer skin and hair sun protection remedy.

Argan Oil is a Natural Sunscreen

Research has shown that Argan oil does have natural sunscreen properties. It works to protect from UV radiation by blocking the melanocyte (skin pigment cells) proliferation of the skin. It is believed the sunscreen properties of the oil are due to the high content of tocopherols, vitamin E, antioxidants and omega oils. Not only does it lighten dark spots that are associated with sun damage, but it also can act as a healthy sunscreen that blocks UV radiation. This protects the skin from damage to collagen and skin integrity that are associated with premature aging. While Argan oil does block harmful rays, I do recommend using a sunscreen in addition to the oil. You can always benefit from an organic mineral sunscreen for extra protection.

Argan Oil Protects the Hair from Sun Damage

Argan oil protects the hair from sun damage as well. Long days in the hot sun and exposure to salt water from the beach may leave your hair dry, brittle and unmanageable. Argan oil can be applied to the scalp, hair shaft, and ends, before you go out in the sun or to the beach. The oil infuses the hair with moisture and nourishment making it have a healthy shine. The heat and rays of the sun will drive the nutrients from the oil deeper into the hair giving it the benefits of a natural hot oil treatment…infusing the Argan oil with the energy and heat of the sun. The omega fats, vitamin E, antioxidants and minerals of the  oil will penetrate the hair leaving it healthy, hydrated and nourished.

Argan Oil Locks Moisture into the Skin.

Argan oil also helps the skin and hair to retain water by locking in the moisture with a rich network of nutrients. The vitamin E, minerals, antioxidants and omega oils help to contribute to its ultra-hydrating and anti-aging effects of the skin. The nutrients in Argan oil also help to protect the collagen from breaking down which may lead to premature aging and sagging.

Argan Oil Makes a Great After Sun Moisturizer

After a long day in the sun or at the beach, Argan oil can be applied as a soothing sun oil. Shower and apply it to your skin and hair and allow the oil to infuse your sun kissed skin with moisture and nutrients.  Argan oil is rich in Tocopherols and omega fats which make it great for reducing skin inflammation and redness. This oil makes a great after sun, skin and hair moisturizer, rejuvenating them from any damage done by the sun. Unlike most lotions and creams, Argan oil is free from petrochemicals and harmful toxic ingredients.

Argan Oil Sourced by Traditional Production Methods

In order for Argan oil to retain its rich diversity of oils and phytonutrients, it must be sourced from women’s co-operatives in Morocco that are using the traditional hand pressed production method. This laborious process is done by women in order to preserve the nutrients and benefits of the oil.

The traditional production method produces cold pressed pure Argan oil which is ideal for cosmetic use as it has all the nutrients intact. It's the rich synergy of all of the nutrients that make Argan oil a summer staple!
