Hi TLC! Here to solve 3 common myths about the clitoris! Let me know if you have any questions below!
- The clitoris does not serve a purposeThe clitoris is about the size of a pea and is made up of thousands of nerve endings, around 8,000 to be exact, thus making it one of the most sensitive areas of your body. Through the right stimulation, the clitoris can provide a very intense orgasm and is the primary source of female sexual pleasure.
- The clitoris needs direct stimulation in order to become aroused. Since the clitoris is so highly sensitive, direct stimulation is not always necessary and can sometimes be painful. The glans of the clitoris is covered by a clitoral hood, which can be directly stimulated during intercourse and thus provide enough indirect stimulation to the glans to cause arousal. Most women prefer this type of indirect stimulation, or to have the glans rolled between the lips of the labia for indirect touch
- Vaginal orgasms trump clitoral orgasm. The most common type of orgasm is a clitoral orgasm. Literature suggests that up to 80% of women need clitoral stimulation to achieve orgasm and that roughly only 10% of women are able to orgasm vaginally. Anatomically, the vagina has significantly less nerve endings than the clitoris. Since the clitoris is considered one of the main erogenous zones of the female body, it is thought to be one of the most integral components of the female sexual response.
